Basketball Stops Marijuana Testing For Good

Over in the sport of Basketball, the National Basketball Association (NBA) is planning to remove marijuana from their list of banned substances. Additionally they plan to stop drug testing players for it.

These changes are part of a new seven-year collective bargaining agreement with the Players Association.

For the past three years the league has temporarily suspended cannabis testing, but this move would formalize that choice.

Regarding the original suspension, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said, “We decided that, given all the things that were happening in society, given all the pressures and stress that players were under, that we didn’t need to act as Big Brother right now,” and he added that, “society’s views around marijuana [have] changed to a certain extent.” ​
