With estimates ranging widely between $340 million to $700 million, one thing is for sure: the cannabis beverage market is going to be huge. With many states reporting declining alcohol sales in states that have legalized marijuana, some alcohol manufacturers are looking for ways to recapture sales and step into the new cannabis beverage industry. A few that have made large-scale investments into cannabis include Constellation Brands, which makes Corona and Modelo beers, Heineken, and Molson Coors Brewing Company. Soda companies are also interested in getting into cannabis. On April 1st, the popular craft brand, Jones Soda, will launch a new line of cannabis-infused sodas, syrups, and gummies under a new brand, Mary Jones. The line will be available in the largest cannabis market in the states: California. Jones Soda does plan to expand to other legal markets after this initial launch and hopes to take a significant share of sales. Jones Soda marketing chief Bob Blair said, “We’re a small player in soda, but we’re going to be the biggest national player when it comes to a recognizable [consumer-packaged goods] name in cannabis.” The launch by Jones is timely, as larger soda companies have yet to make their move. Coca-Cola has long been rumored to be interested in the market, but they have announced no deals at this time. Comments are closed.
