On Tuesday, Connecticut’s governor said that the state is about six months away from launching adult-use marijuana sales. Governor Ned Lamont (D) spoke about this in a response to a question on Twitter. The question had been: “Do you have any updates on how the recreational marijuana setup will be for retail customers? Will it be close to how Massachusetts has theirs setup?” Governor Lamont tweeted back, ”I just got my latest briefing on adult-use cannabis this week. We’re about six months away from opening a safe, equitable market.” Governor Lamont has long supported legalization. Before signing the new adult use legalization bill last year, someone asked Governor Lamont if he’d partake in cannabis himself when it was legal. He said, “not right now, but we’ll see.” Last month Governor Lamont shared a clip of a country song who’s lyrics say that one great thing about Connecticut is that it’s “cool to smoke some pot”. The Republican gubernatorial candidate who hopes to beat Lamont in this fall’s election, Bob Stefanowski, quickly criticized Governor Lamont, and said, “our governor should not be encouraging kids to smoke marijuana” and he later called for an attorney general investigation into it.
