Eating Hemp Significantly Extends Life Expectancy in Bees... Could it Work for Humans, too?6/29/2022
Researchers at a University in Poland found out that bees fed with hemp extract aged slower than those on a regular diet. The researchers examined the effect of hemp extract on the activity of the antioxidant system in adult honey bees. They found that the activities for antioxidant enzymes were far higher in the hemp fed bees. They also found that the bees who were supplemented with hemp had significant increase in their lifespan compared to the control set. The ‘regular’ bees had a life span of approximately 35 days, while the ones who were fed hemp had a life span average of 52 days. The researchers concluded that because hemp has high antioxidant properties, it therefore increased the activities of key antioxidant enzymes that protect the bee’s against free radicals and thus delay the aging processes.
