Lots of Layoffs in Cannabis Company Giants

There have been a lot of layoffs in some of the biggest cannabis companies.

Due to volitile market conditions in this still rather new industry, many, if not most, cannabis companies are struggling to stay afloat.

Northern California based Sonoma Lab Works, which is a longstanding labratory service for the cannabis industry, shut down their operations and told Green Market Report, “Prices [are] going down, and [companies are] just not making enough revenue to keep the doors open.”

While Sonoma Lab Works chose to close operations altogether, most of the big cannabis companies are staying open. But, they need to cut costs, so many of them are axing job positions across the board.

• Here are some of the drastic employee reductions happening at the end of 2022:
• Curaleaf Holdings laid off around 220 employees in November
• WM Technology Inc. recently cut 175 employees, which is 25% of their workforce
• Leafly let go 21% of its workforce in October
• The Flowr Corp cut 40% of its workforce to try to keep the company going
• Aurora Cannabis reduced it’s global workforce by 12%
• Dutchie laid off 7% of its staff in June
• Trulieve told the Business Times that they were, "temporarily reducing production" and letting go of a large number of employees at a growing facility in Pennsylvania. Unfortunately Trulieve is also facing a class action lawsuit for allegedly violating the Workers Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, which states that employees need at least 60 days advance notice of terminations.
