Major League Baseball has stepped up to the plate when it comes to taking a more positive stance towards marijuana over other professional sports leagues. For example, the league issued a memo in 2020 that said players would not be punished for using cannabis while they aren’t playing ball. Now the MLB has made another first move among major sports. They have just announced to their team marketers this week that they are going to allow sales of sponsorships to cannabis companies that market CBD products. The companies will have to meet certain criteria to do so, such as having their products certified by NSF International, which is a consumer safety and product-testing organization that sports leagues use. They must also recieve approval from the MLB commissioner’s office. MLB Chief Revenue Officer Noah Garden said some cannabis brands had already reached out but, “None of them are there yet, although around three to five [brands] are in process.” He also said, “It’s a good opportunity for us and the clubs.” Comments are closed.
